Seriously, I really do have the answer you are looking for. I know, because when trauma hit me, nothing from my all fitness or nutrition degrees actually worked. Nothing.
I held onto the weight even though I had already coached hundreds of people through their own weight loss journeys.
I could not figure out what was going on for the life of me, until I uncovered regulating your nervous system and dealing with trauma.
Yes, we ALL have trauma!
- Trauma is anytime our nervous system does not feel safe.
- So for a four-year old it could be getting left at a gas station or store by mistake.
- For a teen it could be the divorce of our parents.
- For military it is seeing your friends die.
- For a woman it can be getting raped.
- For a young kid it can be being told daily you are nothing, and dumb, etc. It can be getting bullied.
- Trauma can come from being abandoned by someone, physically or emotionally.
We all have it and we have all been taught to suppress it like good little girls and strong boys.
And when we suppress it, our bodies hold onto that negative energy and start to eat away at our bodies from the inside out.
You see, living in fight or flight state (running from that dinosaur) keeps our nervous system in a state of frenzy. And of course when you’re running from a dinosaur your body holds onto all energy coming in so that it has it to outrun the dinosaur.
It also shuts down your digestive system (because there is no time to go to the bathroom, hence IBS, and other gut and digestive issues).
Once we exhaust all energy from the digestive system our nervous system steals energy from other systems in our bodies so as to keep “running from the dinosaur.” So there goes our endocrine system, immune system, etc. I think you get the point.
The longer we stay in fight or flight the longer our body is in “stay alive at all cost” mode and that means it doesn’t give a shit about your hair, muscle, skin, immunity, etc., its only job is to keep you breathing.
Well … that kind of sucks, doesn’t it?
That’s not really living, is it?
So how do we fix this?
We learn to regulate our nervous system so that in this chaotic world of stress we don’t have to feel like we are constantly running from the dinosaur, we can find peace in the chaos and thus our bodies can feel relaxed and tart working again and thus they will drop the weight all while you are actually eating !!
Go figure! Our bodies actually love us, not hate us.
This whole time they are trying to keep us alive all while we are hating out body for what it is doing to us.

I turned 57 today and I’m in the best shape of my life. I want to go further, I have more energy today than I did when back in college on the wrestling team and we trained all year back then.
